Day 9

Day 9 - Computer History Museum and 1 Infinite Loop

Today we had the opportunity to visit the Computer History Museum - and somehow we managed to get the great tour guide again. We truly expanded our horizons as we went through the museum and learned the computer history in chronological order, from the 1800's until today.

Afterwards, we went to 1 Infinite Loop where Mr Gabriel Marcu agreed to answer to our questions. He is one of the elite graphic designers at the Apple Company. He couldn't let us into the buildings of the company, but he gave us a tour of the campus. At one moment we stopped between two walls. On the left one there was a photo of young Steve Jobs next to the first Apple computer (which was pretty big), and on the opposite side there was a photo of him holding one of the thinnest computers of nowadays. He told us a bit about how inspiring and what a great honour it was to work with Steve Jobs, and it was one of the saddest days when they found out the news. He then told us as a final advice that many people feel embarrassed and go backwards because of the fact that they are Romanians, when instead we should take a step froward and say "I am Romanian and I can do it!" - he advised us to go beyond the limits that society sets and look into the future in a way that no one ever did.

Before heading to the hotel, we went to Macy's (a mall nearby) from where some of the people in the group bought some iDevices, the others checked out the superhero clothes and accessories and the other ones browsed all kinds of shops.

Azi am avut oportunitatea de a vizita Muzeul de Istorie a Computerelor - și într-un fel, tot noi am nimerit ghidul carismatic, din nou. Ne-am lărgit orizonturile cu adevărat aîa cum ne plimbam prin muzeu și am învățat despre istoria computerelor în ordine cronologică, din anii 1800 până azi.

După aceea am mers la 1 Infinite Loop unde D-l. Gabriel Marcu a fost de acord să ne răspundă la toate întrebările noastre. El este unul dintre designerii grafici de elită ai companiei Apple. Nu avea posibilitatea să ne lase înăuntrul clădirii companiei, dar ne-a făcut turul campusului. La un moment dat ne-am oprit între doi pereți. Pe cel din stânga era o poză cu Steve Jobs în tinerețe lângă primul calculator Apple (care era destul de mare), iar pe parte opusă se afla o poza a lui ținând unul dintre cele mai subțiri computere de azi. Ne-a spus că a fost una dintre cele mai triste zile când au aflat veștile. Ca un sfat final ne-a spus ca mulți oameni se simt rușinați și dau în marșalier din cauza faptului că sunt români, când în loc de aceasta ar trebui să facă un pas în față și să spună "Sunt român și pot să o fac!" - ne-a mai sfătuit să mergem mai departe de limitele impuse de societate și să privim viitorul într-un fel în care nimeni nu a mai făcut-o.

Înainte să ne îndreptăm către hotel, am trecut pe la Macy (un centru comercial) de unde anumite persoane din grup și-au cumpărat iProduse, alții au căutat haine și accesorii cu supereroi, și restul au mers prin toate magazinele.
